Now usable also for external interested parties.click here for the german homepage version / klicken Sie hier für die deutsche Homepage Version

Already in 1985, the “Egyptological Database AHA Berlin“ had made the development of a comprehensive, nearly universal Egyptological database, that meets all the requirements of recording and administrating data, its business. The project is now applicable also for external interested parties. The data stock contains about 300.000 encoded entries, organized in thesauri.

The scope of functions of the Egyptological Database AHA Berlin still contains all the activities of the “GbR zur Förderung altägyptischer Forschung” (non-trading partnership for the promotion of research on ancient Egypt), that will soon be continued as a foundation by Eberhard Holzhäuer under the academic direction of the Philipps-University in Marburg/Germany.

Many scientific works and research projects, promoted with or without public funds, can be operated via this relational database. The constantly increasing amount of data material is at disposal of the database users by the internet. New data, which is supplied by the users, is subjected to additional scientific support before finally being encoded in the host system.

The platform constitutes today’s main module, "Ägyptologische Universaldatenbank SESCH für Forschung und Lehre", the “Egyptological Universal Database SESCH for Research and Teaching”.
The program allows the retrieval of edited expressions, phrases and dictionary entries – in hieroglyphic writing too – in notation, and a wide range of translation possibilities, for the time being only in German language.

The cross linking of the whole range of thesauruses permits the evaluation of cross tabulations and the comparison of self-determined arrangements and their further analysis.

The development and operation of DASS, "Datenbank altägyptischer Särge und Sarkophage" (Database for Ancient Egyptian Coffins and Sarcophagi), over the years was the precondition for the formation of SESCH.

All the programs can be applied on MS Windows and MacOS.
